A young 15-year-old Tamil mother sits in the sand with her infant child at an IDP camp in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, Sunday, Mar. 11, 2007. The number of Tamils marrying and having children at a young age has risen sharply since the rise of paramilitary groups in the area. At first these paramiltary groups were less likely to abduct married men, or the fathers of young children, and getting married was seen as a kind of protection. More recently though paramilitaries have returned to indiscriminate abductions regardless of family status.
